Job Description:

Position Overview:

Assists in the production of surface mount technologies, which involves attaching electronic materials to printed circuit boards. Finished products will be inspected by an engineer to assess their quality. Responsible for the assembly quality and on-time delivery of all FreeWave products that are produced by FreeWave’s printed circuit board assembly process. Accountable for the programming, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of circuit board assembly line equipment and processes including, but not limited to, Surface Mount Assembly machines and other assembly line support equipment.


Work should be performed at the FreeWave Technologies location in Boulder, Colorado unless otherwise specified by functional Management.


Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement advanced processes and SMT methodologies including extensive DFM evaluations on new products
  • Perform defect and failure analyses for Surface Mount Technology (SMT)
  • Lead improvements in process yield, quality, cycle time, inventory accuracy and delivery
  • Lead/Train a team of SMT Machine Operators and Process Technicians
  • Diagnose and execute repairs to assembly line electrical and mechanical equipment to a component level including requisitioning of replacement parts
  • Develop and execute predictive, preventative procedures on assembly line equipment and aligning these procedures to the equipment manufacturer requirements
  • Work professionally and effectively in a team-oriented environment. Work with limited supervision. Communicate effectively with customers and team members.
  • Consistently complete quality work in a timely manner meeting established deadlines
  • Support products throughout their life cycle, developing and implementing changes as needed to drive process and product quality improvement
  • Must be a US Person in accordance with United States immigration laws to be considered for this position

Experience and Skills:

Skills and Abilities Qualifications:

  • Must have experience in programing/operating various equipment in an SMT manufacturing line such as Screen Printers, AOI, Reflow ovens, Selective Solder, and Placement equipment. Familiarity with MPM, Camalot, Mirtec, Virtronics, Nordson, and Samsung is considered a plus
  • IPC-A-610 Class 2 trained
  • Must be able to read and follow written or verbal assembly instructions
  • Must be proficient in utilizing a Digital Multi-meter, oscilloscope, predictive and preventative maintenance diagnostic tools, Microsoft Office, measurement tools and hand tools
  • Ability to generate process instructions for SMT operation staff
  • Ability to understand procedures and processes, schematics, wiring diagrams, and blue prints
  • Basic understanding of SPC [Statistical Process Control] and its uses for process improvement and control
  • Solid background in 5S methodology
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in electronic Surface Mount Technology assembly required



  • Associates Degree in Electronic Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • SMTA certification is a plus
  • Previous training in 6 Sigma quality is a plus
